little help please

I have a new goal: to like bananas.

Currently I abhor them. The smell, the taste, the texture...they all make me wanna yak. The color doesn't bother me all that much.

Not sure how to go about it though. I am reading a book which discusses how to go about eliminating food phobias and it says small doses are required, but I have never been able to stomach even the smallest bite of banana. Driving a car while someone in the back is eating something with banana in it makes me want to drive into oncoming traffic.

So what should I do?

addendum: i've had one comment so far and it's not of a constructive nature. let's try to keep it helpful, people.

Maybe you should find some banana-flavored liqueur and make some drinkie-poos with it. You could kill the taste w/ lotsa vodka...

That's a very odd goal - why, if you abhor banananananas, do you want to learn to like them?

Do you feel that bananananas will make you a better person, or will enhance your relationships? Perhaps you have a deep-seated need for acceptance that has been repressed by years of misunderstood bananana rebellion.

I think you should abandon your bananana-centric self-torture and accept the existential conundrum that is human existence - see beyond the false but obvious external reality to the equally false underlying construct of your perception of the world and all that is in it!

Or try an open-face peanut butter and bananananana sandwich - everything tastes better with peanut butter!

OK. The 2nd and 3rd comments are more like it.

Miss Kate, are you just trying to get me drunk? The thought of vodka and banana liqueur...can't type, vomiting ...it doesn't appeal to me.

Captain, you have given me options, human condition or sandwich. This is the point. I want to increase my options.

Vodka and banananana liqueur will never be an option, though. That just ain't right.

Dried banana chips don't smell. If you get use to that you could then try the new cereal from post that has dried bananas, blueberrys, and strawberrys. It's pretty good.

I think however, that it might be more useful to investigate the cause of your phobia. I don't think I've ever assaulted you with a banana, but that doesn't mean someone else didn't. You may find some gentle hypnotherapy useful in discovering your past lives with bananas. I suspect something very bad happened in this life or the one immediately prior to this one. That's how I identified my irrational fear of pop-tarts.

Good suggestions Sylow_p - although Sparklestone should be aware that any breakfast cereal that contains dried blueberries tends to turn the milk bright blue, which may cause additional trauma.

perhaps you need to take yourself back to an earlier time in the evolution of our species. the first step will be to drag your knuckles on the ground. next you will want to eat a banana the way monkeys do...upside down. this could be confusing, because if any monkeys are reading, they will say, "wait, it is you humans who eat the banana upside down", but let's not get into that. you hold the banana by the stem, and peel it by the little black nubby thing at what you always thought was the bottom of the banana. it is surprisingly easy, and might just be what you need to change your views.

if this goes well, maybe you'll have to try drinking coffee. oops, on second thought, maybe it's better if you don't get into bananas, they can be addictive

J-bone, I would do that...if the evolution of species wasn't a complete sham.

Now the Forbidden Fruit...that may have been a banana.

Try some banana flavored runts...those are pretty tasty. I know some good drink recipies w/ banana liquor. I stole the drink menu from the Hard Rock Cafe in Cozumel. Most have rum in them. You like rum, don't you?

Right now you are 1 and 1. I liked your Vanilla Coke & Vodka, but that Midori drink that actually made me sober was not good.

Do I trust you again? Okay, I will. Send me some of your stolen drink recipes.

I went out for dinner with The Wife last night and for desert we had a tasty pie consisting of a shortbread crust, banananana, toffee, and toffee/chocolate whipped cream. You should try that - it'd make anyone like bananananas
